Leave Your Legacy
After taking care of your family, you can add a bequest in your will for a specific amount by naming the Dawson Creek and District Hospital Foundation as a beneficiary and citing the federally registered Charity number 89 488 0541 RR0001. It’s that simple. Talk to your financial advisor/legal counsel to learn about the tax-saving benefits to your estate.
Including a gift in your will, or bequest, is a thoughtful personal decision that will benefit the health of our community now and in the future. A gift in your will, would be paid out to the Foundation through your estate once you pass. You won’t have to give up any of your income or savings during your lifetime. Every contribution, regardless of size, will make a difference to health care support at the Hospital.
The charitable tax receipts that the Foundation would issue to your estate can substantially decrease, or even eliminate, tax that would otherwise be payable. The easiest ways to leave a gift in your will are:
- A Specific Bequest: You name in your will a specific amount of money or shares in stocks you own, or a gift of property. If you are considering citing gifts of property, such as art or real estate, please contact us at the phone number/email below so that we can discuss the types of gifts we would be able to accept.
- A Residual Bequest: You give all or a portion of what remains of your estate after any specific gifts are distributed and estate fees and taxes are paid. This option provides flexibility and reduces the need to update your will as your financial situation changes.
- A Contingent Bequest: You leave gift to be given under certain conditions. For example, you could redirect gifts to the Dawson Creek and District Hospital if others you are naming in your will are unable to accept or will have already passed.
The Foundation is especially grateful for the forward-thinking legacy donors . You can play a vital role in ensuring that the community’s greatest health care needs are met. Please let us know if you have decided to include a gift to the DCDHF in your will. We would like to be able to thank you and hear more about your wishes.
Transfer a Gift of Securities
You can gain tax credits and reduce tax payable by donating a number of publicly-traded shares in stocks, bonds and mutual funds. This process is done through your broker. Canada Revenue Agency does not charge capital gains on publicly listed securities donated directly to registered charities rather than being sold first. You will receive a tax receipt for the full value of your donation when securities are transferred by your broker to our account. Contact us at 250-784-7355 to discuss this thoughtful method in advance and to obtain additional information.
